Fast-Growing Suburbs Dominate the Top 10 U.S. ZIP Codes for Homebuyers

Fast-Growing Suburbs Dominate the Top 10 U.S. ZIP Codes for Homebuyers

Opendoor—a leading digital platform for residential real estate—released a report ranking the most popular ZIP codes across the United States. The rankings were based on data from local Multiple Listing Services (MLS) in areas where Opendoor operates, analyzing the total number of homes that went under contract within 90 days of being listed during 2024.

The findings highlight a clear trend: homebuyers are gravitating toward fast-growing suburbs with new development, close to major cities but still offering a suburban charm.

Nick Boniakowski, Head of Agent Partnerships at Opendoor, explains the appeal:

“There’s an overall theme here of being close to big cities without being in the city center. Buyers [want] to be close enough to the action while still getting that smaller city or suburban charm.”

Texas Dominates the List

Texas is leading the way in popularity, with six of its ZIP codes appearing in the top 10. The state’s booming job market has been a significant factor in attracting homebuyers, along with its relatively affordable housing options in areas close to major metro hubs.

The Top 10 ZIP Codes for 2025

Here are the most sought-after ZIP codes for homebuyers, according to Opendoor:

  1. Katy, Texas (ZIP code 77493)

    • Katy, a western suburb of Houston, tops the list.
    • Known for its rapid development and job opportunities, Katy offers a mix of affordable housing and proximity to Houston’s vibrant economy.
    • Median listing price: $379,900
    • Median rent: $2,100
    • Katy is home to major corporations like ExxonMobil and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and benefits from Houston being the third-largest hub for Fortune 500 companies in the U.S.
  2. Cypress, Texas (ZIP code 77433)

    • Another Houston suburb, Cypress, is second on the list.
    • This rapidly growing area boasts award-winning neighborhoods, excellent schools, and strong job growth.
    • Average home value: $404,577 (up 0.8% in the past year, according to Zillow).
  3. San Antonio, Texas

    • San Antonio offers a mix of cultural heritage and modern development, attracting homebuyers looking for both charm and opportunity.
  4. New Braunfels, Texas

    • Located between San Antonio and Austin, New Braunfels is a hotspot for those seeking suburban living with easy access to two major cities.
  5. Summerville, South Carolina

    • This Charleston suburb is experiencing rapid growth while maintaining its small-town atmosphere.
  6. Forney, Texas

    • Located east of Dallas, Forney is gaining attention for its affordable housing and family-friendly neighborhoods.
  7. Yukon, Oklahoma

    • A suburb of Oklahoma City, Yukon is known for its community-focused living and affordability.
  8. Clarksville, Tennessee

    • Situated near Nashville, Clarksville offers an appealing mix of affordability and proximity to a major metro area.
  9. Parrish, Florida

    • Parrish, located near Tampa, is becoming increasingly popular due to its sunny weather and new housing developments.
  10. Kyle, Texas

    • Just south of Austin, Kyle has grown into a destination for homebuyers seeking more space while staying close to the tech hub.

Why These Areas Stand Out

The unifying factor among these ZIP codes is their balance between proximity to major cities and the affordability and charm of suburban life. Many of these areas have experienced significant job growth, making them attractive not only for housing but also for career opportunities.

Texas, in particular, has been a magnet for new residents due to its economic growth, business-friendly policies, and housing developments that cater to a wide range of budgets.

The Appeal of Suburban Living

Boniakowski notes:

“Having the diverse housing stock at some relatively affordable price points in addition to job growth is really a contributing factor to [these areas] being at the top of the list.”

As more people seek homes that offer a balance between urban access and suburban peace, these ZIP codes are poised to remain popular in the coming years.

For homebuyers, these areas represent a chance to invest in fast-growing communities with promising futures. Whether you’re looking for affordability, job opportunities, or proximity to a major city, these top ZIP codes have something to offer everyone.
